Think places that have
 historical markers are
expensive to stay in ?

In most cases you are exactly right.
You are not only paying  for the
privilege to sleep in a historic place
but are paying for the name and
the added luxury they provide.

At
The Haunted Historic Ott
Hotel
 we too are a historic
landmark that offers a vivid history
of Southeast Texas along with
added extra bumps in the night.

What makes us different is the
fact, just to be truthful,  we ain't
fancy, we are an affordable,clean
and functional hotel.

What exactly does functional
mean ?

Take a trip with us back to the
roaring 20's,  We gladly welcome
you back to 1928.

In the oil boom towns of the early
20's hotels along the railroad were
built with as  little frills as possible.
That is why the slang term for
these hotels was "flop houses".

No, not houses of ill repute, even
though that did happen quite
regularly.

These hotels for the most part
offered a clean room and a bath to
many a weary traveler having to
layover till the next train arrived,
maybe perhaps roughnecks
coming in off a rig, Who ever it was
there was not much time for luxury
back in the days of the oil booms.

These "train" hotels had sparsely
furnished rooms
with a sink and two bathrooms on
each floor, "European style."
A Mens and a womans restroom of
course.

Now you have the opportunity to
step out of high priced lodging and
step back to 1928 and stay in the
last operating train hotel in the
state of Texas.

The trains are still here and they
interrupt the quiet at least 35 times
a day. The Liberty,Texas train
depot across the street was closed
along time ago.

Fact, Legend,
or Folk Lore ?
This is the Life of
The Historic Haunted
Ott Hotel.
Business was good for the Ott
Hotel during the roaring 20's and
depression 30's.
The year the Ott Hotel opened
money was everywhere and life
was booming. However the next
few years proved to be a different
story. In 1929 the stock market
crashed.  Thank goodness for oil.
It was during this time that bank
robbing became the rage of the
day. There were several stories
that arose of robbers hitting a bank
to find out that it was declared
insolvent the day before.  The
robbers started out as hero's to the
poor kinda like Robin Hood, but
through the actions of these
crooks running from the law and
killing some of these lawmen these
"hero's" quickly became villains to
the innocent folk of America.  It
was during this time that outlaws
like John Dillinger, Ma Barker and
her boys, Baby Face Nelson, and
Machine Gun Kelly, to name a few
Roamed the south and mid-west.
It was during this time that one of
the many legends of the Ott Hotel
came to be. The most infamous
couple of this time was Bonnie &
Clyde.

They robbed banks in Texas,
Arkansas, Louisiana. It was right
after a bank robbery in Dallas
County that cost the life of a local
policeman they were on the run to
Shreveport La.  Back then before
I10,  Highway 90 was a major
thoroughfare to Louisiana The
couple has been tracked to an old
resturant in town by the name of
Layel's and according to some old
timers the notorious couple stayed
at the Hotel while on their way to
Shreveport. Fact or fiction no one
will ever be able to know.
It remains to this day one of the
many mystiques of
The Haunted  Historic
Ott Hotel.

Just a few more orbs for you ! See
how easy it is to get Orbs.

That's why we guarantee orbs
for everyone ?

We hope you enjoyed your visit to The Haunted Historic Ott Hotel
website
The Haunted Historic Ott Hotel. Built in Liberty, Texas in
1928.  Liberty is in Liberty county, which happens to be the
only
county in Texas that isn't named for a man or and Indian tribe.
Liberty has a colorful past mainly in part that it is 30 years older than
the United states of America. Liberty is known for being the third
oldest city in Texas. Liberty was originally founded by the French then
in 1756 the Mexicans took over. In 1831 the township of Liberty as it is
known today was founded, that was five years before the battle for
Texas Independence.  One of the interesting facts of Liberty that it is
known for having seven courthouses.  It is also known as the place
where Sam Houston had his law office. Liberty is also known for the
home of Price Daniels, governor of Texas, senator, Texas speaker of
the house, Texas supreme court judge.

Liberty bills itself as the first city on the Trinity river.

Next to the
Ott Hotel is The Liberty Library and on the grounds of the
Library is the actual replica of the Liberty bell that is cast from the
same mold as in Philadelphia.

We are proud of the heritage behind the
Ott Hotel and are trying to
preserve history as well as make some history in the process. It is our
goal to help maintain a historical presence as well as comfortable
lodging at an affordable rate.
These days the trains never stop in Liberty but the Old Spanish Trail
which is now State Highway 90 keeps on rolling and
The Haunted
Historic Ott Hotel
continues to this very day doing the same thing
that it was meant for that spring day in 1928 when it opened for
business, which is allowing customers to stay at the very least rate
possible with a good nights rest.

These are things we believe in. In fact my family and I live at
The
Haunted Historic Ott Hotel
to help make sure these promise are
carried out.

From our family to yours.

The Mc Cain's
WHY SHOULD  WE PRESERVE  HISTORIC PLACES?

If we wish to have a future with greater meaning, we must concern ourselves
with the
total heritage of the Nation and all that is worth preserving from our
past as a living part of the present.

The Historic  Preservation  Act of 1966
Reaffirmed in 1992
by the United States Congress:

" The spirit and direction of the Nation are founded upon reflection in its historic
heritage.
The historical and cultural foundations of the Nation should be preserved as a living
part of our community life and development in order to give a sense of orientation to
the AMERICAN PEOPLE.
Historic properties significant to the Nation's heritage are being lost or substantially
altered, often inadvertently, with increasing frequency.
The preservation of this irreplaceable heritage is in the public interest so that its vital
legacy of cultural, educational, aesthetic, inspirational, economic, and energy
benefits will be maintained and enriched for future generations of Americans."
The Historic Ott Hotel
is such a place,  in both the history of The
Great State of Texas as well as the Nation in which it was built.
The original Liberty,Texas train
depot picture across the street
form the Ott Hotel. The depot was
closed sometime ago and lies in
disrepair waiting for someone to
care for it.
On the weekend of February the 10th  the Texas Paranormal
Team  under the direction of Elmo Johnson of Pearland, Texas
and approximately 20 others of the team came to examine and
archive some very unusual events at the
Haunted Historic Ott
Hotel
. Some of the team members brought heat/cold sensors,
there was one who had a divining rod. On that particular
Saturday night the team investigated the upstairs and
downstairs of the
Haunted Historic Ott Hotel  they were able to
spend time in several rooms and captured video and orbs. One
of the paranormal's named Peyton felt all kinds of energy and
in one case felt like the entity was calling him out for a
gunfight. The energy in the building was extremely high that
night. It was a very successful evening as far as photographing
orbs.

We are always glad to host your group just call 936-336-3832.
If you want to experience a night at the
The Haunted Historic
Ott Hotel
book early there are only a limited number of
haunted rooms available.
Our latest paranormal investigators came to us from
Shreveport, La.  They called themselves the Louisiana
Paranormal institute.
They spent Friday July 13th Anf the 14th with us. Friday
night was slow so slow they tried the "all seeing eye"
with herbs and that kind of thing. Our "Ghosts" were not
impressed. Kelly,  one of the owners was out of town.
Kelly has some kind of connection with the spirits of the
Ott Hotel.  It seems they really like Kelly.  Kelly returned
Saturday evening and the ghost hunt was on.  That
night there was no need for superstious rituals it
seemed the "spirits" were glad Kelly was home
because they were in true form. in room 212 they sat a
coke can on the dresser and said "if you're here knock
the can off " and it did ! They got it on video

September 2007 brought to the Historic Ott Hotel a group
of investigators calling themselves " Conundrum"
Productions from Houston Texas.
They had five in this group. One sceptic, two sensitives
and two real believers. They were given a tour and shown
most of the evidence, videos, evp's, photo's etc. Then only
the brave were given were given keys to enter. Much was
caught on the equipment. It was a very good night for ALL
at the Ott Hotel.

On Wednesday July 22nd
ABC13 Houston sent a film
crew over to
The Haunted Historic
Ott Hotel
to Film a segment
called "Hometown Live".
Katisha Crossley and her
camera man Ben arrived at the
hotel at 12:30 to interview and
film the hotel. Susan gave
them the nickel tour and gave
a real good interview on the
history of how the Ott came to
be.
They spent the afternoon
getting a feel of the place and
then at 4:40 went live from the
lobby of the Ott Hotel.  It was
very interesting all afternoon
with the news truck out front
and all the traffic that the news
truck attracted.  We want to
thank ABC13 for coming out
and spending time with us
here at the Ott Hotel. It was an
afternoon that we will not long
forget.  To see the segment go
to abc13.com click on the link
video and go to "Hometown
Live"
There you will see the actual
segment.

May 2007
The Haunted Historic Ott Hotel hosted the Gulf
Coast Paranormal Society to the haunted hotel.
Joel, Buddy, James & Dale were the investigators and
they brought everything that is needed to "catch" a
ghost. They had infrared video cameras, heat sensors,
digital photo, recording equipment and a lot of hopes of
finding something worth while, And find it they did.

Around midnight  the place started jumping. We turned
off the hallway lights and talked to the building, yes, I
didn't studder.   After that it was catch all the orbs you
want.  For the first time ever we have documented
video of activity in one of the rooms. The video and
audio recordings of that evening are being analyzed and
we will definitely have them for you as soon as they are
made available to us. The whole night was one to
remember. All it cost them was their own time and fuel.
If you would like to book a haunted tour  just go to the
contact us link on our website and we will gladly set up
a time for you to come and see what ghost bustin' is all
about.  We stay booked up so if you plan to spend the
evening make sure to book way early.
